Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Members of the Community, Welcome back to the German Saturday School!
My name is Anja Kazmeier and I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about being appointed Principal again here at the GSS. I am truly honoured to be in this position since 2017, and look forward to working with the dedicated staff and committee to provide the best possible educational program for our students and help the school continue to expand.
Before becoming principal, I taught at the GSS for three years starting in 2014, and during that time I’ve experienced a close and collegial relationship with everyone associated with the school and found it to be a special place where our students can learn and grow.
I was born and grew up in Germany and after successfully obtaining my Abitur (equivalent to the VCE), I studied English and German at the University of Stuttgart for three semesters before moving to Australia at the age of 21.
My academic background includes a Master of Applied Linguistics from Melbourne University, a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from Monash University and a Certificate in Adult Teaching from Cambridge University. I am currently enrolled in a Master of Teaching programme at the Australian Catholic University.
My primary objective is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that will provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student to the best of our ability. I will work diligently with the teachers to make sure our students are exposed to curriculum and instruction that is both engaging and challenging.
Our goal is to develop our students’ communicative abilities and competencies in the four traditional language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) and to instil in them a love for the German language and culture by offering programs that showcase German traditions and customs.
As parents, you play an integral role as part of this community in the education of your child. Your involvement in your child’s education will help your child achieve more success and have a positive outlook on school. Please be sure to read the newsletters and calendar that are on our website. Get to know your child’s teacher and stay updated on classroom and school events.
I’d also like to encourage you to join our Parent Committee that actively supports our staff in providing our students with the best educational experience and learning opportunities possible.
Furthermore, we will offer to our students again this year to sit the German Language Diploma exam, Deutsche Sprachdiplom (DSD 1) and the Goethe-Institut exams Fit in Deutsch I and II. We will also continue to explore the options given to us by the PASCH – Schools: Partners for the Future, namely participating in cultural projects and competitions, networking and study scholarships.
I would love the opportunity to meet you, so please feel free to stop by before, at recess or after classes to introduce yourself. Building a strong home-school partnership is important to me and vital to a child’s successful educational journey. Do not hesitate to contact us either at the school or through the website if you have any questions, concerns, and/or ideas that you would like to discuss.
I’m looking forward to a great school year!
Herzliche Grüße, Anja Kazmeier MAppLing
